The first tour each day is of the world’s largest solar telescope, the McMath-Pierce solar telescope.

We have rescheduled our ride to Kitt Peak.  It will be on Saturday May 15th.  This is the week after our breakfast ride.

We will meet at McDonalds @ 8:00 am., Ajo and Kinney, for coffee and whatever.  We will then ride up to Kitt Peak and hopefully get a 10:00 a.m. tour of the telescope.

If you are interested in going please let Harry Barden know so he can have a head count and can coordinate a tour guide.

We will eat lunch afterwards @ Cindy Lou’s in Three Points on Ajo Rd.

If this ride goes well there are two other tours.  The next one starts @ 11:30, which we could do after breakfast.

On this tour you will visit one of the early workhorses of Kitt Peak. Built in 1964, the 2.1-m telescope is still in high demand every night.

The last tour is at 1:30.  We could eat lunch first then go to Kitt Peak for the last tour of the day.

This telescope has been a landmark in since 1973, and is easily visible from many points in Tucson. The 4-m is the largest optical telescope on Kitt Peak, and receives 4 times more requests for use than there are clear nights each year. From the Visitor Gallery you have a beautiful 360 degree view of Kitt Peak and surrounding landscape. Tour lasts approximately 1.5-2 hours.

The annual Tucson Police Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 4, 2010 at 1900 hours.  The event will be held at the Tucson Police Memorial Plaza at 270 S. Stone, the main police headquarters.

The Memorial has been moved to the evening hours to take advantage of the cooler temperatures after sundown, ease parking problems and encourage the families and friends of our personnel, as well as members of the community, to attend.

The Memorial honors our officers who have died in the line of duty.  This is a solemn and moving event and is our way to honor their sacrifice and demonstrate to the surviving family members that we remember their loss.  Uniform for the Memorial is long sleeve shirt, tie and dress 8-point hat for all sworn members.

At the Shriners poker run on April 11th were Bob & Rusty Ness and myself.  I think there was a very poor turnout due to the fact they were not raffling off a Harley this year.  It was a 42″ LCD TV.  I did not win this year.  Nor did I win the 50/50.

Pinal County Ride

Our AZ BK IX group of (13) bikes assembled at Norm Hubbard’s office parking lot in Catalina AZ at 0700 on April 10th for the ride to the Pinal County SO office in Florence AZ.

The BK riders were Norm & Mary Hubbard, Stan & Patti Thibaut (in car), Rev Calkins, Bill Daily, Twan VanDerSanden, Tim & Debbie Noonan, Alan & Susan Stewart, John Howe, Alex Lopez (possible new member), and Steve & Julie Kelley (transfer from Ohio BK).

The group rode to Florence PCSO for the 0830 RTR event which included breakfast, entertainment, and a raffle for various items and services.

Pinal County Ride

The BK group and approximately 65 other bikes departed the PCSO at 1000 in ONE single group for the Memorial Run Hwy 79 to US 60 & Hwy 177 junction in Superior AZ, continuing s/b on Hwy 177 to Winkleman AZ. The group ride concluded at Winkleman AZ with PCSO provided snacks and soft drinks.

The BK group then continued s/b to Oracle AZ for lunch at the Oracle Inn Steak House. It was a great day, a great ride, a great group, and a very worthy cause.

This was the very first year for the PCSO RTR event – and will be repeated again in 2011 with the group ride ending in Oracle AZ rather than Winkleman AZ.
