Manufacturer: Harley-Davidson Motor Company

SUMMARY:

Harley-Davidson Motor Company (Harley-Davidson) is recalling certain model year 2014 Trike motorcycles manufactured July 24, 2013, through September 2, 2013. Due to an incorrectly machined part, the motorcycle may have an excessive steering angle allowing the inner fairing to contact the rear brake fluid reservoir resulting in a loss of brake fluid. Additionally, the steering damper may be damaged.

CONSEQUENCE:

Loss of brake fluid from the rear reservoir would reduce brake performance. Steering damper damage could reduce the rider’s ability to control the motorcycle. Either condition increases the risk of a crash.

REMEDY:

Harley-Davidson will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the trikes and replace the fork stem bracket, as necessary, free of charge. The recall is expected to in late November 2013. Owners may contact Harley-Davidson at 1-800-258-2464. Harley-Davidson’s recall number is 0152.

NOTES:

Owners may also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or go to SAFECAR.

Well it’s that time again.  The Arizona Renaissance Festival will be back in the Tucson area.  Those wishing to ride up this year will meet at the Chevron Station on Oracle and McGee on Saturday February 8th.  We will leave at 9:00 am.  This is also the same day as our monthly breakfast ride so you can choose either one.  I will be leading the group to the Festival.

Southwest Conference Winter Gathering

(A sanctioned Blue Knights Event)

The annual winter gathering for the Southwest Conference will take place January 24-26, 2014 in Palm Springs California. We are changing venues this year, which has the added bonus of a less expensive room rate than the previous location. This is your chance to see old friends and make new ones. There is no agenda for this event. We will sit around, tell lies, and enjoy the warmth of each other’s company.

There will be three scheduled meals (two dinners, one breakfast) at locations and times that will be announced when you arrive. There is a Carrows Restaurant on the property, as well as a steak house (currently closed, but management says it should be open by early January), plus other local eateries. And of course, there is plentiful shopping throughout the downtown area.

The hotel has blocked out 30 rooms for our use. They will hold these rooms for us until January 1st, at which point they will release them. Please call as soon as you can, tell them you are with the Blue Knights, and book your room. Rates may change after January 1st.

Twenty members and their family made the dinner memorable.  Those who e dinner were; Stan & Patti Thibaut along with their daughter, Twan & Fonda Van Der Sanden, Frank & Kate Brunetti, Jeff & Kelly Jamieson, Ray & Donna Valenzuela, Stewart Van Kirk and Judy Sable, George “Bud” Welch, Patrick & Georganna Shely, Bev, and myself.

We had a nice turn out for the October Breakfast Ride to the Vail Steakhouse. As usual, we had good conversation, the service was very good, as was the food. After breakfast five motorcycles with nine people, took a ride. We rode east from the steakhouse on Old Benson Highway and rode to Marsh Station Rd. where we took the entrance ramp for westbound I-10.

We then took the Sonoita Highway south and then went west to Patagonia. We stopped in Patagonia and spent an hour checking out the arts and crafts festival that was taking place that weekend. We were glad we stopped to take a look around. We rode west, taking the short cut to avoid Nogales and ending up going west on Ruby Rd to I-19. We traveled north on I-19, heading our separate ways for home.
